The fishing industry is sinking. Federal mismanagement, ridiculous regulations, agenda-driven-political science, excessive enforcement, questionable justice system, conflict-of-interest and corruption on the councils are inundating us.
Laws, lives and communities are being lost. Solutions are irrelevant in this destruction-by-design. Conservation has become a mirage, which hides the beast. The green Sea Serpent feeds on fishermen. The endgame being “Ownership of our Oceans”-money, power and control is what they crave.
My little family worked in a healthy scallop fishery. The “Privatizers” wanted it all. We got thrown overboard in the Catch Share frenzy. All we wanted was to make a living and provide people with fresh, Dayboat seafood.
Putting us out of business is like denying crumbs to ants at picnics.
Swimming through the wreckage, I noticed there were lots of displaced fishermen. The first vessel to show up was a yacht called “The Pretenders”. It was full of politicians. Some were too busy feasting to notice us treading water. One gazed upon, us and offered advice, “Sea Serpents are your friend, don’t fret.” One politician promised to rectify our situation, when he returned to D.C. Another one couldn’t commit until the impact study was complete. As the yacht departed this quote came to mind- “Talk is cheap, except when Congress does it.” by C. Hightower
Ahoy, here comes a fishing vessel. They will be sure to take action. My heart sunk, when I saw the Catch Share “Profiteers” aboard. They told us to quit our whining and move aside. They were running late for a meeting with the topmost Sea Serpent. I bid this “Ship of Fools” a farewell.
Soon a state marine patrol boat came alongside. The captain said, “I regret to inform you, that Obama’s oceans executive order overrides our jurisdiction. This means only the feds can help save you. We will notify the correct authorities".
We waited and waited growing wearier. Finally a huge ship was sighted. A smaller boat was launched. The 8 man crew informed us we were in violation as this was a no swim zone. We pleaded for assistance. The feds said the LOST (Law of the Sea Treaty) just was signed. This meant the UN had jurisdiction and America just lost her water sovereignty. Their hands were tied.
Alas, we were screwed. The only thing we could count on was ourselves. We all joined together and built a crude craft. Everyone climbed on, no one was left behind. One final touch, we hoisted a white “Surrender” flag.
We had lost our boats, communities, jobs and fish, at least we had
comradery, honor, integrity, honesty and truth.
Wait,in the distance, the USS Constitution. It
can’t be-Ron Paul at the helm.Walter Jones and Bernie Sanders were there too. Perhaps, there is hope?
Share the Catch-Abolish Catch Shares!! Tell Washington to keep Wall St out of the fish business.
