In this world of PR spin "Saving Our Earth" means the opposite- the environmentalists are the polluters.
How to Master Political Spin http://www.ehow.com/how_2063608_become-spin-doctor.html
The following is a letter I'm sending to our senators. Feel free to do the same. Wall St. is running out of bubbles to burst. They have decided to capitalize on our public resources (fish). Our government is going along with it. Catch Shares controls your job. We can fish 4 DAYS a year. How would you feel if your job/industry was next? What if you could only drive your tractor/trailer 6 days a year? The PR behind this ridiculous scam is being generated by faux-environmentalists who are accepting lots of cash from big business. We must ALL stand together to stop this ecofascism business.
Dear Senator ______,
The Obama administration (NOAA) is planning to spend $54 million next year; solely on implementing further unnecessary devastation/consolidation to our beleaguered fishing industry. This attack on fishermen is via Catch and Trade (Catch Shares).
Science and conservation are devoid in this fishery management plan (FMP). The rent-seekers (bankers/investors) have launched a very clever PR campaign via pseudo-environmentalist's groups. Gifting ownership of public resources is an outrageous act! Total allowable catch (TAC) has the same result as Catch Shares without giving away fish forever!
Consider this-the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation gave grants totaling $5,971,568 in 2010-one objective for all the money- Catch Shares/Sectors. I shudder to consider what the amount would be if we added all the other trusts and foundations that have set their sights on giving ownership of fish.
As a public official, it is your obligation to stop this scam dead in its tracks. Like the Cap and Trade scandal-time reveals the truth. As our great country's economy falters on the edge of a cliff-we need jobs, industries and infrastructures to keep us from falling/failing. Feeding Wall St's insatiable greed is suicide for our nation.
I am writing to urge your support for retaining Amendment No. 548 to
H.R. 1 – the Jones Amendment -- in any final 2011 budget legislation. This bipartisan amendment, authored by Congressman Walter Jones of North Carolina and supported by Congressmen Barney Frank of Massachusetts and Frank Pallone of New Jersey, is a vital move needed to support fishing industry jobs and families that are the backbone of the nation's coastal communities.
The amendment would prevent the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) from expending funds to create new regulatory systems under its highly-controversial National Catch Share Program, a regime that has created regulations that are crippling the livelihoods of fisherman in the South Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic, New England and Gulf of Mexico. (Alaskan fishermen too are suffering by these unfair and permanent allocations of public resources, but they are not included in this amendment).
I urge you to support jobs, food and our coastal communities. The compensated-environmentalist's cry to "Save the Earth" could "Destroy Our World" because they have sold their souls to the corporate polluters, bankers and investors. They have awoken a sleeping giant of middle-class who are losing jobs, houses, pensions and health. We will not go back to sleep; our children's futures depend on us.
Thank you,
Mary Beth de Poutiloff
Scallop fishing family,
Catch shares allocated us 4 days a year in a healthy fishery!
Abolish Catch Shares!
